The British designer Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

Price's death comes just weeks after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry mourns the loss to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
