Vince Zampella, renowned for co-creating the immensely successful franchise Call of Duty, has tragically died in a traffic collision in Los Angeles, California he was 55 years old.

His passing was verified by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the video game company he co-founded.

The influential industry figure died after his car crashed and burst into flames on a highway in the Los Angeles area on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This is an unimaginable loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, his loved ones, and everyone impacted by his legacy," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts said.
