Jurgen Klopp admits a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the idea that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I will never coach another team in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests I could make the decision down the line, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations must arise to draw him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “No longing for management; I avoid standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; No need for interviews multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, yet sharing a meal with the players enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games thus frequently great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the adjustments which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches across various tournaments following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the idea it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly on the loss of Jota, a player he signed while in charge, along with the consequences for the team. Jota was killed in a road accident together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute such an individual? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A profound tragedy for the entire squad too. No one within the club might employ it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this on a personal level is challenging. Unbearable.”
