Former Physician Charged with Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a ex- doctor has been charged with committing assaults against 38 individuals who were under his care.

The Serious Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what police called a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents outline the forty-five charges he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police are urging individuals with information to contact the investigating team.
