Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Community Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
